The GAM Variable Speed Prism Rotator uses silent drive belts to rotate the prism. It can be supplied with either a three or five-facet prism which can easily be changed.

The low voltage motor and gear box is mounted on vibration pads to minimize noise transmission to the 20 gauge steel frame. Finish of the steel frame is matte black. Two high temperature belts drive the mounting ring for the prism. The drive belts are threaded through Teflon rollers, then around the groove in the prism mounting ring. They are then wound around the grooved drive pulley which is secured to the motor.

The mounting ring is designed to hold a three or five-facet prism 12.38 cm. in diameter and a friction gasket. In addition it has a groove to receive the retaining spring that will securely hold the prism in place. It can be easily put in place and be removed to change the prism. The variable speed motor can be controlled by almost any dimmer for the purpose of varying the speed or to start and stop the prism rotator. The motor is powered by a UL and CE approved power transformer. The power requirement is 120V VAC or 230 VAC if selected. The prism rotation with standard drive motor gear box will be from 0.875 to 8.0 rpm.

The 120 volt Prismo model is supplied with a two prong Edison connector on a 6-step power transformer that is designed to be used in conjunction with a dimmer or direct on a 120 volt AC line. The power transformer features a polarity switch which enables you to switch the direction of the prism rotation and a 6-step voltage change switch which allows you to select and slow the prism rotation. We do not recommend selecting the seventh step, 1.5 volts, because voltage fluctuations in your system might drop to a point where the prism will not start rotating. The power transformer can be plugged into either a dimmer or a hot line and can also be supplied with an (optional) in-line speed control. The power transformer for the 220 volt model is not available with polarity and volt change switch. However it is designed to be plugged into a dimmer so that you can vary the speed and it can also be supplied with the optional in-line speed control.

The PRISMO™ shall be designed to fit into the color holder slot of ellipsoidal spotlights that use a 6 1/4 inch gel frame. There shall be an opening for the gel frame safety latch to secure the PRISMO™ in the frame holder. In addition there shall be anchor points provided should safety cable be needed. The three or five-facet optical prism is cut from clear glass with a cut flange to fit into the prism mounting ring. The prism is held in place by a flat steel spring designed to fit the groove in the prism mounting ring as manufactured by GAMPRODUCTS, INC., Los Angeles CA. See model numbers below.

In-line Speed Control Model (optional)

Prismo™ unit may be supplied with an in-line speed control, a small variable transformer mounted on the power cord. The unit now can have its speed control from two points, the in-line speed control and (if you so choose) by also plugging it in to a dimmer.
